Top Albums of 2008

2008 ended up being a year that opened up my musical world. This year I found myself diving head first into the indie/singer-songwriter genre. I am far from an expert listener to this genre, and there can be/is a lot of crappy music you have to sift through (though I’d argue less than with top 40 style music) to find the true gems… but what gems they are.

Mandolin Rain

I’m taking a bit of a departure from writing up a full album in order to talk about a single song that I was recently re-introduced to. It was a song I heard plenty of times in my childhood as my mother was into all that 80’s pop rock crap.* The song, Mandolin Rain by Bruce Hornsby.

Wow, what can I say?!

I can say that I’m ashamed that it took an Old Navy commercial to get me to fall in love with that voice. But, oh, what a voice.

Let me just say this: Ingrid Michaelson hits my ear drums just right. There is no one else I’ve found who’s music is as fulfilling as hers.
