Spring Cleaning

So, the last few weeks of blogging regular has been an absolute failure. There are various reasons for this, but one thing I read a long time ago said to never apologize for not posting fresh content — So, here’s my official “I’m not sorry” statement.

Today is an absolutely gorgeous day in Eugene. There’s some light cloud cover that the sun has mostly burnt through. It’s only about 50-degrees, but there is that true “first day of Spring” feel in the air. Earlier today while doing some errands around town, I noticed that most people were driving with their windows down.

What is it about that first day of the year that you can drive with your windows down and still be fairly comfortable? It’s such a refreshing feeling, especially in a place like the Northwest, where Winters are full of dull gray and rainy days.

I don’t personally suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which affects many people who live in places like the Northwest or northern Canada due to the aforementioned long and dark winter months (I think I once heard 1/3 Oregonians suffer from it). However, bright, Sunny, and dare-I-say warm days like today just make it feel like a heavy darkness has been lifted, sort of a Spring Cleaning of the soul — the hope for Summer is now in full bloom.

  1. “Spring cleaning for the soul”…. I like that, Josh. Thanks.

I haven’t worn a coat the last two days up here. I am soooooo ready for Spring.

  2. I hate to be the party-pooper here, but don’t get your hopes up just yet. It’s only February 11th, and you know how the Northwest can be. I’m sure we’ll get another blast of winter before too long.

But…I’m with you, Barb. I like the changes of the season, but I’m ready for Spring. I love it when things start to bloom and the sun has that more intense feeling to it.

  3. @ Jason — Oh, I know that there’s a good chance that the Valley could easily have another freeze or two. In fact, I just saw the weather report forecast rain/snow showers for Wednesday night. But, unlike the rare sunny (and very cold) winter day. Today the sun did have some of that intensity to it. Spring couldn’t get here soon enough.

  4. Josh, It’s just a tease. It’s one of those typical, Oregon, February days that says, “Hey, remember what it’s like to have sunshine”. And then, just as you think it’s time to get the lawn furniture and put it out on the front porch, you wake up to the sound of rain drops hitting the skylight over your bed.
Like the groundhog, you may as well stick your head back in a hole and wait.
I hope spring is not six more weeks away.

  5. Its cold and rainy here today in Mac. Sigh. I am back to wearing my coat…..

Oh well - twas fun while it lasted.

I’ll be in the snow at the Mountain this Friday night and Saturday day. :-)
