A Charlie Brown Christmas

I bought this album in high school, not for the Christmas music, but for the song Linus & Lucy. The jazz choir I was a part of was singing a vocal version of the Charlie Brown classic, and so I bought the album to help me practice at home. It didn’t take long for it to become my favorite Christmas album, including the only holiday music I’ll play any time of the year.A Charlie Brown ChristmasWhen I first conceived the idea to post this album as my Monday music, I thought I was on to something. But, since, I’ve seen Charlie Brown Christmas on television several times, and this album, along with various other Peanuts merchandise everywhere from Borders to Starbucks. I knew that Peanuts was popular, but this year, in the spirit of the mass amounts of anti-consumerism I’ve seen, Charlie Brown — the representative of such virtues — has been plastered everywhere. Kinda ironic.

Anyhow, A Charlie Brown Christmas is undoubtedly my favorite holiday music — and one worth having in your music collection. The jazzy versions of traditional Christmas music, performed by Vince Guaraldi Trio, are unmatched. Plus there are few things that can bring more joy to me, then the sound of children singing.

This Week’s Listening

It was actually a pretty light music listening week, just 123 track listens, but with 63 unique artists. Below is the graphic from my Last.fm profile for top albums this week (click to enlarge). The top song this week was Leon Redbone & Zooey Daschanel singing “Baby it’s cold outside” from the Elf Soundtrack, with 5 listens, despite Last.fm only recording three of them.
