Angels and Airwaves

I’m a couple days late on the site re-launch, but better late then never right? Gotta love when life gets in the way… but on the other hand, it’ll be fun to kick this thing off with a fun and easy post debuting “Monday is for Music.”I’ve seen several other blogs I read do similar things on various days of the week — and while I’m no music critic — I’ve been introduced to countless new bands (to me), such as Muse, Kate Walsh, The American Dollar and today’s feature Angels and Airwaves through blogs, I hope to do the same.

Angels and AirwavesAngels and Airwaves was created a couple of years ago by former Blink 182 front-man Tom DeLonge, and includes former The Offspring drummer Atom Willard. Before I go any further, I must say that Blink 182 was my favorite non-christian band in high school. I say non-Christian, because I was mostly in to the crappy poor-quality christian music scene, partly out of guilt and partly because I was a goodie-goodie — but Blink 182 was my band. The harmonies, the punk music, all of it, just rang beautifully in my ears. One time, after attending an Acquire the Fire event, I was put on such a guilt trip by Ron Luce that I broke my Blink 182 cds — I still to this day regret listening to a single word Luce had to say, but that’s for another post on another day — needless to say, I’ve since reacquired all of Blink 182’s albums.

However, this post isn’t about Blink 182. It’s about the very much grown up and matured Blink 182: Angels and Airwaves. Many of the harmonies I grew fond of with Blink 182 still exist with AVA. The immature lyrics of Blink have now grown up, dealing with spirituality, love, and much more with AVA.

While Angels and Airwaves are no longer a secret — with their new release I-Empire climbing to number-one on the iTunes Music store practically overnight — those who listen to very little radio or avoid the MySpace scene may still not know of this great band, much like I didn’t, until Ben Gray of Openswitch did a music review of their album on his blog.

Next week I’ll take a look at my favorite Christmas Album since it’s that time of year, as well as introduce my most listened to songs and bands via Last.fm.
